Well, we had contemplated going back to Gettysburg for a three day weekend, but we ultimately decided it would require a hotel room and meals out, so we've opted for going to a new Civil War location: Fredericksburg, Virginia. It was (is) 50 miles south of Washington, D.C. and 50 miles north of Richmond, Virginia (then the capital of the Confederate States of America). That would be a very strategic location for either the Union or the rebels! The Fredericksburg battle actually took place December 11-15 in 1862 , so our timing is pretty good!

And so, at the crack of dawn tomorrow we will be off to this area. There are museums, etc., on everything from the Indians to the Civil War to daily life in the 1700's and during the Civil War, even a temporary exhibit honoring the tenth anniversary of 9-11. It will be a long and busy day - and, who knows, we may even spend the night!
Wait'll you hear how Grant "wept" over what took place in the Wilderness Battlefield. John was reading about it just last weekend in his Borders-going-out-of-business-on-sale Civil War book.
